Stories from the Mountain

★★★★★

"The first thing that pops in my mind is to close my eyes so I can relive those moments we sat on the edge of a road to look down into the valley of floating clouds. The hike up to a nearby peak to watch sun set when we reached Sandakphu was magical."

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the fitness level required?
Moderate fitness. You'll trek 5–8 hours daily at high altitude (3600m+). Regular cardio and leg strength help, but determination matters more. We have trekkers of all shapes, the mountain doesn't discriminate on fitness, only on willingness.
How severe is altitude sickness?
Acclimatization is built into the itinerary. Most guests experience mild headache first night; our guides monitor health closely. Descent options always available. We carry oxygen and basic medical kits. Altitude is real, but the trek is designed to minimize risk.
Do I need a trekking permit?
Indian nationals need ID proof. Foreigners need a permit for Singalila National Park,OJ handles all documentation and liaison. You show your passport; we handle the rest with the forest department.
When's the best weather window?
October–November (autumn) offers clearest skies and best visibility, perfect for peak views. March–May (spring) has wildflower blooms. Winter is snowy; monsoon closes the trek. Nov 14–20 is in the sweet spot.
Can I trek solo safely?
Absolutely. OJ groups have solo guests regularly. You'll be with experienced guides, porters, and international trekkers sharing the adventure. Solo trekkers often form lifelong friendships on the mountain.
What's included in meals?
Breakfast at all lodges. Dinners and lunches at village homestays showcase Himalayan cuisine, dal rice, momos, butter tea, seasonal vegetables. Food is hearty, altitude-friendly, and prepared fresh. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice.
What about water and hygiene?
Lodges provide boiled/filtered water. Carry purification tablets. Homestays have basic but clean facilities. Hand sanitizer is essential. Squatting toilets are standard; western options limited. Come prepared for rustic mountain living,it's part of the charm.
How do I get to the trailhead?
Fly into Bagdogra (IXB) or take a train to NJP railway station. OJ arranges a scenic 5-hour drive through tea gardens to Manebhanjyang. We handle transfers; you just arrive and step out ready to trek.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
If Plans Change, We've Got You We totally get it, life happens, and sometimes your plans have to take a rain check. That's why we've kept our cancellation policy simple, transparent, and as kind as possible.

• 45+ days before the trip: 10% cancellation charge
• 30–44 days before the trip: 25% cancellation charge
• 15–29 days before the trip: 50% cancellation charge
• Within 14 days of the trip: 100% cancellation charge

These are calculated on the total trip amount, not just the token amount.

Now, if you can find someone to take your spot, we'll happily refund your full amount. No questions asked. Because at the end of the day, we'd rather have someone travel than hold back your money.

To keep your spot confirmed, please clear the remaining balance by the due date, it helps us lock in stays, permits, and experiences for the group. If payments are delayed beyond that, we'll have to treat it as a cancellation (same policy applies).
