From palace grounds in traditional dress to volcanic crater hikes at dawn, every moment on this trip rewrites what Korea means to you.
9 days. 5 cities. Autumn foliage. One bucket-list adventure.
We land at Incheon International Airport, gateway to Korea! Collect visas processed, hop on the express train straight into Seoul. Check into our boutique hotel and freshen up. Evening drift through Myeongdong's neon-soaked streets, street food vendors calling, K-beauty shops glowing, the energy electric.
Morning at Gyeongbokgung Palace, one of Seoul's "Four Great Palaces", 500 years of royal life on these grounds. We dress in traditional hanbok (rent not buy!) and get professional photos in front of the main gates and gardens. Post-lunch, we explore Bukchon Hanok Village, a 600-year-old residential quarter with wooden houses, hidden courtyards, and tea rooms tucked into every corner. Narrow alleyways where time feels slower.
Today we visit the DMZ, the Demilitarized Zone at the 38th parallel where North and South Korea still stand frozen. We descend 73 meters underground into the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, built by the North in 1978 to sneak soldiers south. Walk where history was literally divided. After the intensity, we head to Nami Island, a crescent of land surrounded by the Han River. This is Hallyu (Korean drama) country, you've seen it in TV shows. Autumn foliage frames everything. Evening brings us to a Korean BBQ table where you cook meat over charcoal and wrap it in fresh leaves with ssamjang sauce. Pure Seoul vibes.
We board the KTX bullet train, smooth, fast, Japan-efficient, heading south to Jeonju, the heartbeat of Korean culture. Check into a traditional hanok guesthouse (not a hotel, real wooden architecture, ondol heated floors, paper windows). Evening traditional Korean cooking class where we master bibimbap, literally "mixed rice", the national dish. Vegetables, egg, gochujang sauce, all stirred together at your own pace. Learn the rhythm of Korean home cooking.
Before we leave Jeonju, early morning walk through the local market, fishmongers, vegetable vendors, the smell of doenjang (soybean paste). We eat breakfast like locals. Then we board an overnight train heading to Busan on Korea's southeast coast. Sleep as the peninsula rolls past your window. Wake up to the sea.
Busan is Korea's beach city, maritime energy, sea breeze, a totally different vibe from Seoul. We hit Haeudae Beach, one of the most famous stretches, and watch the sunset paint the sky. Climb Busan Tower for 360-degree views. Evening: Jagalchi Fish Market (Korea's largest) where we pick our dinner fresh, octopus, scallops, crab, and eat it grilled right there in the tent restaurants with cold beer and makgeolli soju. Raw, vibrant, unforgettable.
Gyeongju is Korea's oldest capital, 1,000+ years of Buddhist history carved into temples and stone. We spend the day at Bulguksa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site built in 751 CE. Hike up to Seokguram Grotto, where a 3.5-meter stone Buddha gazes serenely over the valley. The craftsmanship is 1,300 years old and it still takes your breath away. Later, we explore the ruins of Anapji Palace, pavilions reflected in ancient ponds, where Silla dynasty kings once walked. Every stone here whispers history.
We fly to Jeju Island, Korea's "Island of Gods." Wake up pre-dawn for the Hallasan climb, 1,947m volcanic peak with a crater lake at the summit. As sunrise breaks, you're standing on a volcano looking out across Jeju and the sea. The hike takes 4โ5 hours (moderate fitness needed, but totally doable). After we descend, we hit the black sand beaches, volcanic sand warm under your feet, turquoise water, a completely different Korea from the mountains. Dinner with fresh sea urchin and grilled fish.
Final morning in Jeju: we explore Manjanggul Lava Tube, a 7,422-meter underground cave formed by lava flows, complete with lava stalactites and a freshwater pool. Walk through caverns older than human history on Jeju. Then we hike a section of the Olle Trail, a 400+ km network of scenic coastal and mountain paths. This one rewards you with sea views, autumn grass, and that bittersweet final-day feeling. Fly back to Incheon in the afternoon. Depart Korea with a lifetime of memories, palaces in hanbok, DMZ tunnels, volcanic peaks, seafood under the stars, and friends who shared every moment.
A 5-city odyssey: imperial palaces, divided borders, mountain temples, coastal seafood, volcanic islands.

"This was my third trip with One in the Orange Jacket and Vyshakh, after Egypt & Jordan and Bhutan, and each one has been unforgettable in its own way. From Dushanbe to Osh, through the Pamir mountains, every day brought breathtaking views, warm local stays, and seamless planning. We felt completely taken care of. But the best part? The people. We started as strangers and ended as a close-knit group, something that happens naturally on a Vyshakh-led trip. Grateful for yet another amazing journey."
"I'm an adventure guide from Cape Town, South Africa, travelling solo for the first time. I know adventure, having taken in excess of 5000 guests personally on mountain hikes and adventure tours. This one was the best! To put it simply, it's the connection and immersion I experienced. The hospitality, connection, empathy and love I felt from this group of strangers made this trip one which I will cherish for the rest of my life. They've managed to curate an off the beaten track adventure experience that anyone can participate in."
"It felt like living a scene from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, as I checked off core memories from my travel bucket list. I chose skydiving in Queenstown, Team OJ struck the perfect balance between adrenaline and nature. A surprise highlight was the Coldplay concert. Vyshak was not only knowledgeable about every destination but also ensured that every member of our group felt comfortable and included. By the end of our journey, those who were once strangers on Day 1 had transformed into friends. Team OJ stands out for their commitment to delivering not just adventures, but lifelong memories."
