Best Time to Visit
Manaslu Circuit is the trek Indians have been ignoring while everyone crowds onto Everest Base Camp. The Annapurna II to Manaslu high pass crossing (Larkya La, 5,160 metres) is the dramatic centerpiece. Same window as EBC (October to November or March to April), but you see one-third the trekkers, get more remote village culture, and the trail is genuinely off the beaten path. This is the trek for second-time Himalayan trekkers who want EBC-grade experience without the EBC crowds.

Direct flights from BLR, BOM, DEL, CCU to Kathmandu. Visa on arrival free for Indians. Manaslu requires special permits (Restricted Area Permit) and group of minimum 2 trekkers; solo Manaslu is not permitted. Total trip cost for 14 to 16 day Manaslu trek is INR 90K to 1.3L including flights and permits. The OJ Manaslu Circuit trip is 14 days, covering the full circuit from Soti Khola to Dharapani, crossing Larkya La pass.

Three reasons. First, dramatically fewer trekkers (Manaslu sees roughly 5,000 trekkers per year vs 35,000 on EBC), making for a more authentic remote experience. Second, the Larkya La pass crossing at 5,160 metres is the trek's centerpiece, comparable to EBC in grandeur but with more dramatic mountain transitions. Third, village culture is more preserved on Manaslu because of the special-permit restriction limiting tourist volume.
Similar difficulty, slightly more remote. Both have similar max altitudes (5,160m on Manaslu, 5,545m on EBC). EBC has more infrastructure (better tea houses, more services). Manaslu is more rugged with fewer creature comforts. Physical demand is similar. Manaslu requires a guide and minimum 2-person group by Nepal regulations; EBC allows solo trekking.
Yes. The Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is mandatory for Manaslu trekking, valid for 7 to 14 days. RAP costs USD 100 for September to November and USD 75 for December to August (per first 7 days, plus per-day extension). OJ handles all permit processing as part of the trip. You also need the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) for the end of the trek.
Solo trekking on Manaslu is not permitted by Nepal regulations; you must trek with a registered guide and minimum 2 trekkers. With OJ group structure, Manaslu is genuinely safe for women. The trail is remote enough that random encounters are essentially impossible. Sherpa and Gurung village hosts are deeply hospitable. The risks are environmental (pass crossing weather, altitude) not personal-safety.
