Who runs group trips to New Zealand from India
Moderately served. New Zealand sells from India but the cost and the leave requirement narrow the market, so there are fewer fixed departures than for Southeast Asia.

What the trip actually involves

Hobbiton is either the highlight or the thing you tolerate, depending on your relationship with the films. The glowworm caves are better done by kayak than on foot, and the geothermal areas around Rotorua smell of sulphur constantly, which nobody warns you about.
New Zealand has some of the best dark sky reserves anywhere, and on a clear night in the Mackenzie region the sky is genuinely startling.

How the days actually run
North Island first for most itineraries. Auckland briefly, then Hobbiton, which is a working film set kept in permanent condition and is either delightful or baffling depending on your relationship with the books. Rotorua is geothermal, meaning mud pools, geysers and a sulphur smell that becomes background within an hour.
Waitomo's glowworm caves are better by kayak than on the walking tour, because you drift in silence under a ceiling of light rather than shuffling in a queue.
South Island is where the landscape takes over. Long driving days through Canterbury and over the passes, and the scale is the thing photographs never manage. Milford Sound is a fiord rather than a sound, and on a wet day the walls run with hundreds of temporary waterfalls, which is better than the clear-day version.
The Mackenzie region is an International Dark Sky Reserve, and on a clear night the Milky Way is bright enough to cast a suggestion of shadow. Most people do not expect stargazing to be a highlight and then it is.
Visas, permits and getting there
Indian passport holders need a visitor visa for New Zealand, and it is one of the more demanding applications on this list in terms of documentation. Financial evidence, a clear itinerary and confirmed accommodation all matter.
