What to expect on the ground

Dubai is hot and sunny most of the year and extreme in summer. Visit in the cooler winter months and pack for heat plus strong indoor air-conditioning.

Documents plus money

Carry digital copies on your phone plus a printed backup in your checked bag.

• Passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your return date
• Visa or e-visa confirmation (printed plus digital)
• Travel insurance card plus emergency contact numbers
• Forex card plus one backup credit or debit card
• Some cash in the local currency in small denominations
• Printed flight and hotel bookings

Clothing for a hot, humid climate

Light, breathable, loose cotton or linen. You will sweat, so pack a few changes and use hotel laundry.

• 5 to 7 light breathable t-shirts or tops
• 2 to 3 pairs of light trousers, shorts, or skirts
• Swimwear plus a quick-dry towel
• A sun hat, sunglasses, and strong sunscreen
• Comfortable sandals plus one pair of closed walking shoes

• Modest covered clothing for mosques and traditional areas

Toiletries plus health

Pack travel-size containers, and carry any prescription medicines in their original packaging with a doctor's note.

• Paracetamol, anti-diarrhoeal, rehydration salts, antacids
• Hand sanitiser plus a few masks
• Toothbrush, toothpaste, and travel toiletries
