Best Time to Visit
Sri Lanka has two monsoons hitting opposite sides of the island, which means somewhere is always in season. The smart frame: January to March for the south and west coast (Colombo, Galle, Bentota), May to September for the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay). Most Indian travellers want the south, so January to March is the default sweet spot.

January or February. South and west coast (Galle, Bentota, Mirissa) are dry, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya hill country are pleasant, and Sigiriya plus Polonnaruwa cultural triangle are accessible. Galle Literary Festival in January adds cultural depth. February has the Navam Perahera (Colombo elephant procession), one of South Asia's most photogenic festivals.
For the south and west coast, yes. The southwest monsoon hits hard. Beaches close, ferries to Pigeon Island cancel, hill country views are obscured by clouds. If you must travel in May, head east to Trincomalee or Arugam Bay where the weather is opposite.
Yes, in late July or August. Esala Perahera in Kandy is the big elephant procession festival, runs 10 days. Pair with Yala or Udawalawe national parks for wild elephant sightings. The challenge: this is rain season in the south, so plan to fly Colombo to Kandy directly and skip the southern beaches if it is your only Sri Lanka trip.
Sri Lanka is 1/3 the cost, with more variety (cultural, hill country, beach all in one) but less luxury beach exclusivity. Maldives is one-week-resort-only luxury. If your honeymoon goal is private overwater bungalow, Maldives. If you want romance plus exploration, Sri Lanka. Many Indian couples now do Sri Lanka plus 3 nights in the Maldives as the perfect combo.
The OJ Sri Lanka trip runs in February. 7 days covering Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya hill country via the famous train ride, Sigiriya cultural triangle, and Mirissa beach. Trip cost is around INR 95,000 per person including flights. Trip-source bundle exists at trip-sources/sri-lanka/.
