Is Mount Elbrus (Russia) Safe for Solo Female Travellers From India?

Real concerns we hear (and what we do)
Altitude sickness on summit day (rapid ascent from 3,800m to 5,642m via snowcat)
Acclimatization profile built into 4 days of progressive altitude hikes before summit attempt. Trip leader monitors pulse-oximetry of every climber morning and evening. Trip leader carries Diamox, Dexamethasone, emergency oxygen. Summit attempt aborted for any climber with marginal oximetry. We have aborted 4 individual summit attempts in 5 years to manage altitude risk; all climbers descended safely.
Weather window for summit day (clear-sky requirement)
Daily weather check via Russian alpine weather service. Summit day pushed back to buffer day if forecasts indicate bad weather. We have used the buffer day in 3 of 5 years. Snowcat operator monitors visibility from the lower mountain. We never attempt summit in low visibility (lost climbers on Elbrus have died this way).
Crevasse risk on the summit ridge
All summit-day climbers are roped together in 3-climber teams. Trekking poles plus ice axes mandatory. Mandatory pre-summit briefing on crevasse arrest. Routes are well-marked by the Russian alpine federation and our guides have summited Elbrus 100 plus times each.
Female climber safety in male-dominated Russian alpine environment
OJ partners with operators who employ female guides and welcome women climbers. Pre-trip briefing covers any cultural considerations. In 5 years of running Elbrus trips, we have had zero gender-related incidents. The Russian alpine community is professional and respectful; the macho-mountaineer stereotype does not match reality.
Barrels Camp at 3,800m communal accommodation (basic, shared facilities)
Barrels Camp is functional, not luxurious: insulated steel barrels with bunk beds, basic toilet, shared dining area. Female-only barrel allocation available on request. Members are briefed pre-trip on the basic conditions. The summit experience justifies the 2-night Barrels stay.

Is Mount Elbrus safe for solo women climbers?
Yes with the right operator. The personal-safety risk in the Caucasus region is low; the alpine community is professional. The actual risk is mountaineering risk (altitude, weather, technical summit ridge) which applies equally to all climbers. With OJ's two-guide policy plus female-guide availability plus mandatory evacuation insurance, the risk profile is manageable for experienced women with prior altitude experience.
Should I do Elbrus as my first 5,000-metre summit?
Possible but not recommended without prior altitude experience. Elbrus is the most accessible 5,642-metre peak globally because of the cable car and snowcat infrastructure, but the altitude itself does not care about infrastructure. Prior moderate-altitude experience (one of ABC, Kashmir Great Lakes, EBC) is strongly recommended before Elbrus. First-time-altitude climbers struggle disproportionately on summit day.
What is the female guide availability?
OJ runs roughly 1 to 2 batches per season with a female lead or sweeper guide. What is the worst-case scenario on Elbrus summit day?
Severe altitude sickness or weather-trapped above 5,100m. Descent protocol: snowcat extraction to Barrels Camp at 3,800m, then to Terskol base (2,200m), then to hospital in Pyatigorsk if needed. We have used snowcat emergency descent twice in 5 years; both climbers recovered fully within 24 hours. Mandatory travel insurance covers emergency mountain evacuation (around INR 6 lakhs).
