Clothing for the mountains

Mountain weather swings hard from warm sun to cold wind, so layering and sun protection both matter at altitude.

• A fleece or warm mid-layer plus a windproof, warm jacket
• Trekking trousers plus comfortable layers
• Sturdy, broken-in walking or trekking shoes
• Warm hat, gloves, a sun hat, sunglasses, and strong high-altitude sunscreen
• A scarf or buff for sun, cold, and dust
• Modest, covered clothing for visiting dzongs and temples
• A collared shirt and long trousers are required at some sites

Toiletries plus health

Pack travel-size containers, and carry any prescription medicines in their original packaging with a doctor's note.
